This magnificent room was the largest of its kind in Europe when it was opened, measuring 100 yards (more than 91 metres) in length. Lit by large arched windows, the vast open central space was complemented by a gallery, supported by marble columns. Virtually all of the Carrara marble, which was used to face the room’s walls and columns from floor to ceiling, has been rescued. It has been meticulously catalogued to ensure that the grain of panels can be matched during reconstruction. |
|
Carved from solid marble, this historic room is complete and ready for recreation. |
